So I just played undertale for the first time (I did the neutral route) Judging by that route.
I thought it was pretty good.
Although I thought it was too easy To the point where I beat almost every fight first try. (I died once to muffet but beat her on the second attempt, I died once to mettaton But it was my fault due to not paying attention But then beat him on the second attempt, I died to asgore twice but beat him on the 3rd attempt, I died to omega flowey once but him second attempt. (I got the ending where sans tells you to go to hell by the way)
Either I've secretly been a undertale god this entire time (Despite never playing it before) Or the game is quite unbalanced on neutral.
I thought the writing was great for the most part. I found a lot of moments funny or charming.
But I don't think the game does a good job with character death. The problem is that other then toriel you're barely given a reason to care since you barely learn anything about them before they die And they are trying to kill a child. Why should I care if they think they doing the right thing.
The soundtrack is amazing And is easily one of my favourites of all time
From A writing And Soundtrack Stand point I'd give the game a 8/10 Mostly great but with somethings I don't like
From a Gameplay stand point I'd give it a 5 or 6 out of 10 Since I enjoyed it but there a lot of things that could be improved
I do think the game is a bit over hyped And don't think it's a 10 out of 10 masterpiece but It doesn't take away from the fact that it's a mostly great game. And It deserves the reputation it got
